This week during class, I really enjoyed learning about different theories surrounding the family. I really liked learning about the "family systems theory." Basically, this theory discusses why events happen within the family by looking at the family as a whole unit; however, it also examines the subsets or "smaller units" within the family. This theory suggests that the most important subsystem in a family is the parental unit. Without the parental figures I have had in my life, our family would not be FUNKIEST FUNK FAMILY on the planet!
Daddy Funk: I have never met a more selfless person in my life. Any chance he gets, he is serving others. Not only does he mowe his lawn every Saturday, but mowes two or three extra lawns for the widows who have difficulty getting around. When he talks to someone, he looks straight into their eyes and listens with his heart. As I have watched him over the years, I realize that he is the kind of person that I hope to someday become. He has such a strong testimony, a love for everyone he meets, and knows how to make you feel like you're the most important person in the world. I know he is very busy with his church callings and work, but I have always know that I am a priority in his life. He knows how to talk to anyone and remembers EVERYONES name! I couldn't ask for a better role model in my life.
Momma Funk: She has always been my best friend. If ever I have a question or a concern, I always feel like I can talk to her; she seems to always knows the answer. She is a wonderful example of always giving everything she has to the Lord. Ever since I was little, I have watched her read her scriptures, say her prayers, and write in her journal every single day. She inspires me to want to be better and gain a stronger testimony. She is constantly serving those around her; she is always inviting people into our home, making dinner for those in need, and taking time to talk to those who may be lonely. She's such a cool mom! So crafty and up on all of the latest trends. Not only is she a cool mom, but she is so fun! I remember doing all sorts of fun and creative activities when I was growing up; eating dinner in the bathtub, building forts, late night icecream runs, driving by boy's houses I liked, etc.
I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people in my life; I seriously don't know how I got so blessed. Recently married, I now have the opportunity to have the influence of Todd and Lynette in my life. They are the best in-laws anyone could ask for. Not only have they made me feel so special and loved, but they have helped me to feel so welcome into their home and family. The trials and hard times they have gone through have made their testimonies so strong! You can't help but feel of Christ's love when you're with them. I feel the spirit so strong as I enter into their home. They always show concern for everyone around them and serve others constantly. I love watching them down on the floor playing with their grandkids! It makes me smile just thinking about what a lucky gal I am!
I feel so blessed to have such wonderful examples surrounding me! My testimony has grown so much concerning the importance of family! I can't wait until the day that I get to start a family of my own!
